Default Hanging Apache using mod_jk

Hi there,

we have some problems with hanging Apache using mod_jk.
Apache is 2.0.58
mod_jk: mod_jk_1.2.6_2.0.50.dll
Tomcat: 4.1.31
We tried with several other versions of the components but with no
effect.

The symptom is the following: sometimes the virtual host hangs. All
further requests for this host do not return. In this situation it is
no problem to access tomcat directly without apache via other connector
types such as http or https. Even other apache virtual hosts referring
to the same worker keep functioning as expected! Just the specific
virtual host is hanging.
We can reproduce the problem better when we switch off browser cache
and load pages with many images so that each image results in requests
to the web server. The problem is independent to router/firewall
issues. I have played with Apaches keep-alive and mod_jks
socket_keepalive without success. Closing hanging connections with
TcpView does not solve the problem. The only solution is to stop/start
Apache (restart does not work).

I dont even know if the problem is on the apache/mod_jk side or on the
tomcat side...

Has somebody any ideas what could be the reason or how to debug it?

TIA,
Albrecht
