apache was running and now doesn't

I installed Apache, php, and mysql and had it up and running. This is
on a P4 XP PRo.
As i am trying to develope a shoppingcart for a site I was develping on
my computer and uploading it to the website. Things were going along
good and I have been looking at many site for tools to help in
development. I would develope php script and run it using localhost ,
"root" as user and password. I noticed that my software would not
access mysql connect statement. I opened the apache screen and saw
there was two apache server, but the would not conect. I uninstalled
apache to try and et a good connect. I bring up apache screen and I
still see two apache, apache and apache2, I try to run SQL yog to see
my server. I will not connect,

I am not much of an expert as I just downloaded the software and ran.
But now I have a bad apache and son't have a clue.
