Apache 2.0.54 losing resource rights

I am running Apache 2.0.54 as Windows XP SP2 service. I have a CGI
(.exe) running over SSL. I am accessing a Smartcard via the CGI. It all
works fine, but after I guess some hours of operation, I get the error
"No readers found" from the utility which I use to read the smartcard.
But I am able to execute the same command in a Command Prompt Window. A
reboot of the machine solves the problem (not a restart of Apache
though).

Pls. help
