I read somewhere that it is more efficient and secure to create seperate partition for swap files. If that's the case, how can I create swap partition (like regular partitions?) and how do I instruct windows to target its swap file to that particular partition? How big should the partition be? THX!!! |

It *is* a "regular partition", it's entire available space (minus a miniscule amount of system space) is designated for a specific-sized swap file. > and how do I instruct windows to target its swap file to that > particular partition? That would depend a LOT on your OS. >How big should the partition be? That would depend a lot on your system's hardware specs as well as what you intend to use the machine mostly for. If you do a lot of heavy graphics or sound editing, you'd probably want a larger swap file. If you /only/ plan to use the machine to check emails, you'd be better off with a very small page file. There's also everything in between, from gaming machines, to machines that mostly run office-type applications, to general-purpose do-all computers. What you'll do with the computer will greatly determine how large your swap file should be. Then there's always the argument over "should it be a specific size?" or "should it be variable?". Or, maybe not even mess with a partition at all, and use a seperate, physical hdd? Your question was a bit general. If your machine's running fine the way it is, doing routine, regular maintainence, then there's probably no reason for you to change how your swap file is set up, currently.
