Starting APACHE for the first time...

I installed APACE version 2.x I was able to get the welcome page
initally with the URL http://localhost/ but later lost this
funcionality. I reinstalled APACHE and still cannot get the welcome
page. I am not getting any current error log messages. In my
http.conf my ServerName is 127.0.0.1:80 My operating system is Windows
XP. Any help would be appreciated.
