Hi,
I've downloaded and installed an Apache package (with MySQL, PHP, Perl, and more) from SourceForge.net and for quite some time (months), it worked without problems. A few days ago, I did something (installed Firefox?) after which localhost was no longer available! What happened? How do I fix it? Any ideas? Many thanks. George george@minding.org |

Further, I'm running on Windows XP Pro with a Windows HE laptop wirelessly connected through a Linksys Router and Access Point. The Apache services ARE started.
Have I forgotten any other useful piece of information? G "George Fowler" <george@minding.org> wrote in message news:C0hdd.31266$4C.6469427@twister.nyc.rr.com... Ok, ok. I admit it. I have downloaded SP2 (aarrgh), am using Norton Firewall, and a few spy programs (SpyBot and SpyBlaster), but these are not new changes. Now Firefox, that was new. I removed it, though I think there are vestiges hanging out somewhere on this computer.
This is getting to be a book! G "George Fowler" <george@minding.org> wrote in message news:C0hdd.31266$4C.6469427@twister.nyc.rr.com... XP SP2 firewall blocks some programs from opening sockets.. That could be
it.. Maybe your HOSTS file got fucked up? Look in \windows\system32\drivers\etc for a file named hosts. Open it with notepad. It should include the line "127.0.0.1 localhost"... Otherwise, add it at the bottom.. -- // DvDmanDT MSN: dvdmandt€hotmail.com Mail: dvdmandt€telia.com "George Fowler" <george@minding.org> skrev i meddelandet news:Kwhdd.84210$Ot3.73903@twister.nyc.rr.com...
