Default Links in email cause 404 error

I have an IIS 5.0 based website. When my customer with Lotus Notes R5
(not sure which minor version) receives a plain-text email with a link
to my site, the link looks good, but when he clicks it, IIS can't
handle it. They are sent to a 404 handler each time (which, is a
custom ASP page that in fact works fine.) The link item shows up in
the IIS logs and the URI looks fine, but it receives a 404 response.

If the customer copies and pastes the link from his email into his
browser, the link works perfectly. Users of other mail clients have
no problem.

So there is something about the way Notes is sending the link to the
web server which is causing the web server to fail on the request.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Thanks -- Michael
