Need help getting started

Have downloaded Apache 2 onto Windows XP Pro. Initially things worked but
suddenly

1. when accessing Apache2CP, it requests an ID/passwd but does not honor
any. Have even defined a user/passwd with htpasswd -c. Am I wrong about
the user name requested?

Can activate Apache2CP w/o passwd by double-clicking on
....htdocs\apache2cp\index.html.

2. Selecting Manuals > Apache ... or clicking on editor.php was bringing up
the dialog box asking if the downloaded file should be opened or saved ??? -
on opening it brought up DreamWeaver. Changed the File association to
Internet Explorer. Now it doesn't come up at all??

Installed on another XP Pro PC with same results. ????
