Default Rookie needing help

I saw a message board that used php coding and found that apache was the
answer for windows. (someone correct me if i am mistaken or simply not
educated enough)

So I downloaded apache. Prob is, even after reading the documentation, I
havn't got the fuzziest clue on how to get the ting running to the point of
operation.

Do I need a compiler to chew it up and spit it out into something win98 can
digest or is there something im missing.

ANY help would be welcomed and appreciated!

Well - the answer is actually PHP, but you need a webserver. You can use
IIS, although my preference would be apache.

Sounds like you downloaded the source code. Try downloading the Windows
installer instead - or find one of the prepacked Apache + MySQL + PHP
combinations.
