I am new to apache and hav a few Questions

I have installed apache2 on my windows xp machine for standalone.
using 127.0.0.1 (localhost) as my servername.
I installed the php program and MySql also.
I then installed osCommerce just to see if it works. But one proplem
is that I do not know how to set the permissions (CHMOD) for my
localhost folders. and I tried to use my FTP program but failed
because I do not know how to set it up for my localhost. Could
someone help me please.
