Newb question!
Bear in mind that the operative term in this message is 'Not for profit' and 'Free'. Alright, so my friend has started a sort of Drama club and he asked me to make him a web site for it. Simple. Now I, being a poor misguided neophyte, want to set up a simple Apache server on one of their extra computers via their Cable connection. Mostly just for kicks, however free webspace that doesn't destroy my carefully validatable with advertisements is at such a premium... So, I resurected one of their busted windows-98 machines and plan to hook it up to their cable on Friday, if possible. And of course find out if they have a static IP, etc. Unfortunantly, they use AOL as their ISP. This makes me nervous because I wonder if AOL's Proxies (which I found out about yestreday) will mess up people's connection to our mini-server. Am I worrying about nothing in my ignorance? Can we let people connect to the server through the real IP? Do we hav to get the proxy's IP? Thanks in advance. |
