As a minimum you should have as your operative system windows 2000 or XP.
Then start with getting your host name on the internet, like using http://www.no-ip.com/services/page/free/dynamic/dns or http://www.zoneedit.com/doc/dynamic.html . I'm assuming you have a dynamic. Next are you behind a router? Do you have more than one computer on your dsl? You will need to know how to forward the needed ports from the router to your internal static IP. Then start with a web server. I would not use the microsoft servers. I use apache2 http://apache.webmeta.com/httpd/bina...x86-no_src.msi . Learn how to use that: http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/ . Or maybe http://www.xitami.com/bs3224d9.exe and learn to use it: http://www.imatix.com/html/xitami/index.htm . Having your own server is fun if you like tinkering around with your computer. There are prepackaged "canned" server solutions but I wouldn't rate them as safe security-wise.
