Default [squid-users] Squid without permanent disk accesses?

I'm using Squid on my Home-Router, which is a Linux-Box running the
fli4l-Distro. The problem is that the harddisk never enters idle-mode,
because of Squids disk accesses every few seconds. Even when the router
is disconnected from my ISP Squid constantly reads/writes to the disk.
I'm using Squid/2.3.STABLE4.

Is it possible to get rid of this permanent disk activity, probably with
some compilation options? Does somebody have another solution to get the
disk idle?

Thanks!
