They will be much more familiar with the steps and configuration required to get things working. I strongly suspect that most of the core Net-SNMP team have never had any involvement with the Asterisk system. If you can find out from the Asterisk people what you need to do, and it still doesn't work - then perhaps we might be able to help interpret their instructions. But it's definitely worth starting with the people who understand this software first.
