As Thomas said.
If you send a daemon the emergency stop signal (-9), then:

a) the agent may indeed end up in an unexpected state
b) you deserve all you get!

You should *NEVER* use "kill -9" unless you've tried everything else
(or you know for definite that anything less drastic won't work).

This is very much a last resort for a system administrator.
It should *NOT* be the usual mechanism for killing a process.
(Although this is unfortunately all too common :-()
