That's because it's used as an index to the ipv6AddrTable.
Retrieving any of the other columns in that table will
include the ipv6AddrAddress as well.

That sounds vaguely like
IPv6-MIB::ipv6AddrType
to me, though I'm not quite sure about what is meant
by "stateless" vs "stateful" here. You might need to
consult the archives of the relevant working group
mailing list.

But retrieving entries from this column will certainly
give you the IPv6 address (as part of the corresponding OID).
