Hi all,
I am a newbie to SNMP, and I am working with UCD-SNMP. I want to implement a MIB with a modifiable table (create/delete/modify a row). In this connection, I had a few questions - Related to "Row Status" ------------------------------- [1] Do SNMP standards recommend using a field of type "Row Status" in a table entry? [2] Do management applications built on top of SNMP expect the presence of "Row Status" field in an entry of a modifiable table? [3] Is it a common practice to use "Row Status"? Related to access specifier of index field of table ---------------------------------------------------------------- [1] When I used a tool like mibdesigner to create a MIB and AdventNet's MIBBrowser, the tools say that MAX-ACCESS of index field should be not-accessible? However I have seen MIBs which have read-only index fields. What is the right way to go about this? [2] Do SNMP standards have some recommendations in this regard? [3] Can the index be ever read-write? Somebody might keep the name of a host as an index to a table, and wants to support "rename" operation on the host? I can see the complexities and nitty gritties involved in such a rename operation. Is it a good idea to do such a thing? Related to string based index --------------------------------------- [1] Is it generally a good idea to avoid a string based index? In my opinion, it seems so, but wanted some expert opinion in this regard?
