No - it's not a Microsoft problem.
It's a side-effect of internal administrative changes within
the Net-SNMP project. (Namely the switch from CVS to SVN)

No. That wouldn't help.

That editor is only relevant to code and header files.
The problem lies with the project workspace files, which
are created automatically by VC++ itself. These did
originally have the correct format, but became corrupted
as part of the CVS->SVN switch.

That has now been fixed, and the next tarballs should
be recognised OK. There's no need to switch editor
(and it wouldn't help anyway).
