Like I said, adding if/else/endif blocks to make the proposed
libwrap/libadm/libnm/libperfstat linking depend on whether --enable-as-needed
has been given (which defaults to off, like currently done for
libcrypto/libsensors), should be pretty straightforward once we agree that's the
way to go.

May we interpret your vote as a "+1" for going this route, i.e.
- disable the proposed linking changes by default (because you think it may not
work on on some ancient platforms)
- enable the proposed linking changes if --enable-as-needed is given (because
it's the Right Thing and more convenient)
?

We'd be at +3, then.

Unfortunately I'll not have further time this weekend to do the necessary
changes to the patch. Would anyone else be willing to do it (Wes? darix?)? I
could offer to run build tests with the enhanced patch, then, at least.
