I'd support that proposal.

It'sprobably borderline to include this sort of new-code patch at this
late stage, but it is very closely focused and should be safe to
include. I'd be less happy about adding this to a minor release, but
given that this is a new major-release, it would be a pity to miss it
out of the 5.4 line. Particularly since I presume it wouldn't affect
a default build.

That gives a basic +3 vote - leave this open for the next 24 hours
(well, more like 12 now), and see if there are any other opinions
expressed.
