Did you read the RFC?

The maximum number of lines is
non_repeaters + max_repetitions * number_of_repeaters

Yes, no indication, you will have to check it in either the oldfashioned way,
that is that column1 starts getting column2 answers, or otherwise ask before
you send the request to get an indication of how many lines there are in the
table.
