That is definitely for the Debian maintainer and not me to state. The
patches are on record (any debian
mirror/debian/pool/main/n/net-snmp/net-snmp_5.2.1.2+cvs20050815-1.diff.gz
for anyone interested to study. Personally, I would trust the Debian
maintainer to forward all patches to you guys that he judges to be of
general interest.

Now, why did I not think of trying that myself? I must have worked Debian
too long :-( The answer is, yes, it works, including the tests. The full
agent probably won't work on the system but that is because the Debian
maintainer's patches modifies the search paths for configuration files, to
better adhere to Debian standards.

I wasn't thinking about a white paper on libtool and autoconfiguration,
rather one or two lines telling under which circumstances it would be
relevant for a user trying to install net-snmp to use these tools to
generate customized configure script.

But, please stop that discussion here. There are no problems with the
pre3 and Debian - and I must move on to the thing that is important to me
- the bug that crashes the agent.

best regards
