snmpset version differences

I'm really puzzled by this, and I'm hoping someone has an easy answer.

I have some scripts that use snmpset vcrsion 4.25 that don't work
running snmpset version 5.1.2. All I'm doing is bring ports up and
down on a Cisco switch.

Here's an example:
<snip>
snmpset < IP address> CITofwQAoAb interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifAdminStatus.9 i 1
<snip>

Works fine using older version of snmpset. When using newer version
5.1.2, it fails with this output:
<snip>
1: Needs type and value
<snip>

I can't find any documentation mentioning any syntax changes. What am
I missing here?
