it NTUSER.DAT is newer on those computers, or is set to be a local
profile under the user settings, it will load it from the computer versus what is on the server. delete the profiles on the computer (after backing them up to c:\temp) and then try again Leandro Tracchia wrote: > i've also copied the profile through my computer properties. still i > don't get the same profiles when logging in from different computers. > > On Mon, Jun 9, 2008 at 2:18 PM, Adam Williams > <awilliam@mdah.state.ms.us <mailto:awilliam@mdah.state.ms.us>> wrote: > > sounds like you didn't copy the user's NTUSER.DAT. how did you > copy the profile? drag and drop from c:\documents and > settings\username to \\server\profiles\username or did you go to > my computer properties, advanced, users, and change their profile > to roaming and copy their profile with the copy button there to > \\servers\profiles\username? > > > Leandro Tracchia wrote: > > this may sound like a basic question but i'm not entirely sure how > roaming profiles work so i'm not sure if i have it working > properly. i > created a local user account on a client machine and then > joined that > machine to the domain. i then logged in as domain > administrator and > copied the user profile from the local machine to the server. if i > login with this user account (now the domain account) from another > machine, i can see the files that are supposed to be there but > everything else like the wallpaper, shortcuts, and windows > styles are > not correct.... is roaming profiles supposed to work like > this??? or > are you supposed to have the EXACT user settings no matter what > machine you log onto??? > > > > -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba |

the profile is set as roaming under the My Computer -> Advanced -> User
Profiles Settings. there are no local user accounts on either client except the the local administrator. this is what i've done so far: i've created a temporary domain user account and logged on with that account after joining the client machine to the domain with the local administrator account. i assigned a new wallpaper and placed some files on the desktop and then logged off. i then joined another client machine with its local administrator account and then logged on with the same temporary domain user account i created above. at this point i expected to see the wallpaper and files i had assigned and created on the first client machine. the files were present, BUT the wallpaper was not kept. i have a feeling that ntuser.dat is not being properly updated. ls -l command on ntuser.dat shows the updated time when i log off the client, but there are also other files like ntuser.ini,ntuser.dat.LOG,ntuser.pol that are also updated. i want to look at the ntuser.dat.LOG but it is binary... also i get a desktop.ini file in the startup folder everytime i logon. i have a feeling this can be fixed easily, but this is my first time playing and testing with roaming profiles and so far it has not been easy for me at all. anyone have any more clues???? I don't KNOW the answer (as I don't use roaming profiles), but:
When you "Save" the profile, you right click on the "My computer" icon on the desktop, selected "Properties", "Advanced", and click the "settings" button in the "User Profiles" section. Highlight the profile you WANT to copy, and press the "Copy To" button. Use the Browse Button to point it where you want it to go, and make sure you use the "CHANGE" button under "Permitted to use", and type in "EVERYONE" Since the files are copying, and you can see them, I suspect a permissions issue. If you did this, then disregard.... I have ALWAYS had to right-click>properties on the desktop, then just click 'OK' - then the wallpaper will be applied. It is set, but for some reason, it won't display until I do this on a new workstation. -- Best regards, Charles -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba |

these are wallpapers saved on the my documents folder (which is part of the
user profile). if i change the wallpaper on the first client, that change is not reflected on second client. both these clients are using roaming profiles. so i'm not really sure if wallpaper setting information is saved as part of the user profile. if it is supposed to be then it is not working for me. frankly, i couldn't care less about how wallpaper behaves. what really concerns me is the files that are created on one client need to be seen when logged in from another client. this works, but sometimes the client needs to be rebooted to see the new files, logging off sometimes just doesn't do it.
