The MySQL backend is currently still experimental. It's broken in 3.0.14a and 3.0.20, but we're working on fixing it. It also doesn't have support for group mapping support (yet). If you have no specific reasons for going with MySQL (such as already having another user database in MySQL), I'd advice going with LDAP.
