That was improved in the last release. See the on-line version if
you don't have the 2.6.6 version handy:

http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync.html

It now has these sections: "CONNECTING TO AN RSYNC DAEMON" and "USING
RSYNC-DAEMON FEATURES VIA A REMOTE-SHELL CONNECTION".
