Default [rrd-users] Help - Solaris - librrd_cgi.a error

Can anyone shed any light on this:
# gmake
gmake all-recursive
gmake[1]: Entering directory `/export/home/mrtg/rrdtool-1.0.49'
Making all in cgilib-0.4
gmake[2]: Entering directory `/export/home/mrtg/rrdtool-1.0.49/cgilib-0.4'
/bin/bash ../libtool --mode=link gcc -g -O2 -Wall -pedantic -Wshadow
-Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations
-Wnested-externs -Winline -o librrd_cgi.la cgi.lo -lm
false cru .libs/librrd_cgi.a cgi.o
gmake[2]: *** [librrd_cgi.la] Error 1
gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/export/home/mrtg/rrdtool-1.0.49/cgilib-0.4'
gmake[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/export/home/mrtg/rrdtool-1.0.49'
gmake: *** [all] Error 2

I see that some other folks have reported this previously, but I don't see
any replies/responses out there.

Pretty much nothing I can think of to do (not a skilled unix programmer, and
definitely not a skilled make user) seems to matter.
Since CGILIB does not seem to be available in a stand-alone form, I am stuck
here.
