Default How Google/Amazon/eBay use?

As far as I know
Amazon uses Perl
eBay uses C
Google, was not using PHP at
all before late 2003. I bet it is using C.

I am pretty sure that Google does not use database. Not sure about Amazon or
eBay

Wait until the effect of the drugs wears off,
then think about that one some more...

No, Google has a reaaallly big hat, from which they pull all the magic
search results. Amazon uses paper napkins when they run out of book margins,
and eBay, well, that's just one big pile of junk really.
Just like a garage sale.

No, no, google actually uses QuickBasic. Seriously. Amazon runs Pascal,
and it's made by underpaid and undermotivated teenagers.

10 IF web=SearchTerm GOTO resultspage
Google isn't really that complex people, it's all in the GOTO's. ;)

I thought that Google used QuickBasic as well, but it turns out that they
use C64 Basic. I've seen their datacentre, they have *twelve* C64s! They
also have a bunch of trained monkeys running on treadmills hooked up to
generators to provide power.

I think he means Google does not use a SQL based database which is
something that is known to be true not only about Google but also most
search engines.

Guys, you are way off the mark, I thought everyone knew how Google did
it. They use PCs (pigeon clusters).

Just to make this thread not totally useless, the following paper summarises
the "google file system" architechture:

(Until receently, ebay used IIS, one of the few major sites to dp sp).
