Default [OT] UK keyboard and PHP

Just out of curiosity, how do people in the UK code in PHP? Doesn't the UK
keyboard layout have the pound sign when the US layout has the dollar sign?

Dollar is shift-4 on a UK keyboard. Pound is shift-3. Hash is on the right
hand side, one right from single quote.

Although this also might be another UK - US difference; I've seen # (hash)
referred to as the "pound sign" for some reason, whereas the pound sign is £.

Here's a picture, although the ~/# key is a row too high on this picture
compared with all the UK keyboard's I've used.

Almost every country has it's own keyboard layout. It's just like that.
It's just being used to it. I'm in france and got a french keyboard (but
learner to type on dutch/belgian/us keyboards). You just have to adapt a
bit, but it's always the same, it's not really important how fast you
write, the most important is how fast you get the algorythm. For me the
dollar sign ($) is under the backspace (right bracket for us layout i
think), but then again, i have a separated (two piece) keyboard and a
lot of keys are on different places then usual french keys. (the
asterisk (*) is under the enter and right to the right shift key).

The only other difference I can think of is the @ sign and " double
quotations are in opposite places for US and UK keyboards. Whenever
I'm in the US and try and put the double quotes in I get an @ symbol
instead and vice versa.

Do you have the euro sign in the US on your keyboards? It now shares
number 4 for with the dollar sign for us. you have to do a ctrl, alt
and 4 to get it.

At a software company I used to work for they had a PC which dual-booted
into either Windows 95 or NT. 95 had been set up for UK keyboard and NT for
US. Whenever I switched from 95 to NT or vice versa I always had problems
typing email addresses!

Nige

My UK keyboard was made before the Euro was invented :-) But ctrl+alt+4 does
result in a Euro symbol.

Ah, that does too. Now I think about it, I don't think I've ever used Alt Gr
key before.

And i learned that Ctrl + Alt was the equivalent of Alt Gr. Well, you
really do learn quite some things on PHP newsgroups.
