Oh thanks. I'd be delighted to have you test it and I'd offer any
assitance you need to get it running on a test server - what we need
now more than anything is a few test users who want to put into to
real use. If you'd like to give it a test, then I'd be happy to help
you out. I did put up a version of the software 3 weeks ago.
Download the 5 packages listed in the middle of this page:

http://www.publicdomainsoftware.org/...hp?pageId=4478

I could also email you a newer version of the software - we've made
progress over the last 3 weeks.

Still, anyone who wants to test this software, I encourage you to
use the demo site we put up. You can totally trash this site, no one
will care. To login:

http://publicpen.com/designer/mcControlPanel.php
username: designer
password: designer123

The public part of the site:

http://publicpen.com/designer/

I should point out we've gone beyond open source with this software -
we've donated this software to the public via a public domain
declaration via the Creative Commons. You'll see our Creative
Commons link on our site: http://www.publicdomainsoftware.org/

In reaction to the substance of your graphic design feedback, I
agree that some icons will, ultimately, make the segregation of the
functions more obvious. That will have to wait till Misty, our
graphic designer, comes back - she's away for a few weeks.

In the meantime, I've made the "Simple Mode" screen the default, so
first time visitors are not so overwhelmed. The full options are
just a click away, hidden under the "Full Options Mode" link on the
left.

I'm sorry to say that the Public Domain Software site probably won't
have all the answers to your questions. We are still at a fairly early
stage of setting it up. There is some valuable information on the
site, but probably only 20% of what you need, and only 1% of what we
eventually hope to get up there. This is an open source project that
is in the early stages - I think we will have our act together, in the
sense of being able to offer a stable product with lots of
documentation, in about 4 months.

For now, we are eager for testers, and we are quite willing to do
anything we can to help people set this up and run it on their own
servers. So please, feel free to ask me for any kind of support you
might need. But it might be better if you ask me on the
www.publicdomainsoftware.org site, rather than here.

You can download the software from this page:

Thanks a million,

Sad to say, the www.publicdomainsoftware.org site is far from where it
needs to be. It only has maybe 20% of the information you'll need.
This software grew out of the freelance web design work that myself,
Misty, Peter and Matt were doing, and I'm afraid we all tend to send
each other email when we have a question, rather than getting the
information out onto the public site, which is what we really need to
do.

The project is at an early stage. I think it'll be about 4 months
before we have the site up to par with the information the public
needs. Till then, feel free to ask us a question - there is a page on
the PDS site for asking questions here:
