configure hangs on SunOS 5.8

Hello,

I'm trying to configure php 4.3.4 on SunOS 5.8, but configure hangs
just after "checking host system type":

bash-2.03# ./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for Cygwin environment... no
checking for mingw32 environment... no
checking for working sed... sed
checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8

Any ideas?
