Informix support on freeBSD for PHP

I am trying to connect from my FreeBSD server using php to a remote
Redhat 7.3 server running informix. I am running into problems.
Informix Client SDK would not successfully install.
does anyone have experience with installing Informix Client SDK on
freeBSD
