I think I remember reading that mysql 6.x should be coming out in late 2008. That is probably at least six months from now. Then probably a few months more until the 6.x certs are available. Of course, products are often released late. It is possible that 6.x will not catch on very fast. I have read that 6.x will not be all open. Web hosters may prefer to stay with the open version. MySQL may even fork. |

If you can afford to wait, what, 2 or 3 years? Then wait and get 6. This is assuming that 5 and 6 don't fork, as walterbyrd suggested they might. If you have everything else an employer is looking for, but "only" a cert in 5 instead of 6, I can't imagine he'd hold that against you. He might in 2014, but certainly not in 2008-2009. Then you can get 6 cert in 2012, if you think it's necessary then. You've got plenty of time to make that decision. Save up for it. Hope that's helpful. |
