Default Free mysql ?

Hello,

I am an individual who would like to learn on their own how to use mysql.

I am probably wrong, but I thought that being open source there would be a
free, or inexpensive, version to "play" with on ones own PC.
I cannot afford the Enterprise Version.

Is there a basic, or watered down free version, available ?
(perhaps from some other source ?)

Any suggestions or thoughts would be most appreciated.

Thank you very much,
Bob

Sure there is a free version, "MySQL Community Server", which you can download
as a source code or pre-compiled for Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OSX, HP-UX, AIX,
i5/OS, QNX, NetWare, SCO and microsoft.

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html#downloads

downloads link takes you to http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/ and from
there, you want "community edition", the one that is not "enterprise
edition". Post again if you still have trouble figuring out how to get
to the downloads.
