need help creating database with phpmyadmin

Hi all,

I am trying to learn php/Mysql and have downloaded and installed Wamp5
1.70(wampserver). Since I like to learn by actual experience, I thought I
would download and use Oscommerce to practice with. The instruction for
installing oscommerce calls for the following actions:

"Using phpMyAdmin or another tool, create your database and user, and assign
that user
to the database. Write down the name of the database, username, and password
for this
database for the database installation procedure."

Maybe it is bad configuration, because, while i am able to create a
database, phpmyadmin (2.9.2) does not give me any option to create a user
and assign the user to the database. The actual installation of oscommerce
was going fine, but I do not have the database and user info to complete it.
Basically I get the following error code:


"phpMyAdmin was unable to read your configuration file!
This might happen if PHP finds a parse error in it or PHP cannot find the
file.
Please call the configuration file directly using the link below and read
the PHP error message(s) that you receive. In most cases a quote or a
semicolon is missing somewhere.
If you receive a blank page, everything is fine.

"Your configuration file contains settings (root with no password) that
correspond to the default MySQL privileged account. Your MySQL server is
running with this default, is open to intrusion, and you really should fix
this security hole."


After a period of frustration I may have created a password for root and
then things got worse. I now get the error:

"Error
MySQL said:

#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)"


Please, somebodyget me to the point where I can create the database, create
a user, and assign the user to the database.
