Default Upgrading 5.0 - 5.1

I'm thinking about upgrading from Mysql 5.0.33 to 5.1.xx, primarily to
take advantage of the new XML functionality, and, to a lesser extent,
profiling. I habitually use Mysql through Phpmyadmin which I'm loathed
to relinquish, just because I'm lazy. In fact, I think I could live
without the added functionality more readily than I could the GUI.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

i like to give new software a whirl by setting up a virtual machine (VMWare
or Parallels) with the same OS as my 'target', and running it there for a
while.... a bit of work but certainly lets you give it a full test run
without changing the way you do things (yet)....
