Remote access denied

I am trying to access a DB that is hosted on a remote server.
Whe I try to log in (as root, with no pw) I get the following msg:
ERROR 1045 (00000): Access denied for user:
'root@office.evans.ru' (Using password: NO)
Accessing the DB locally (SSH into the server an then log in) works
perfectly.
I've tried remotely from both command line and from MySQL Quesry
browser.
Any ideas?
