MYSQL JDBC

Hi,
Am new to all this so maybe missing something obvious. I have
installed MYSQL and think I have installed JDBC correctly however the
piece of Java code I have written does not seem to want to connect to
the database. Is there anyway to check if the JDBC has been installed
correctly?
