Why couldn't he just do something like:

Target[totalswitch]: 1:public@192.168.1.10 <1%3Apublic@192.168.1.10> +
2:public@192.168.1.10 <2%3Apublic@192.168.1.10> +
3:public@192.168.1.10<3%3Apublic@192.168.1.10>+
4:public@192.168.1.10 <4%3Apublic@192.168.1.10>:

For all the ports he wants to graph? (And set maxbytes accordingly)

Or you could use a shell script (linux) to minimize your queries. Query all
the ports for your individual charts, then add them together
for a aggregate chart..
