I'm heavily experienced with open source software, but new to postfix. I would REALLY appreciate this documentation. Seeing a working system is 50% of the learning curve battle. To know that it does work if you do it this way gives me a point from which to say this one works and mine doesn't; What is different that might affect it? It's basic scientific method really. In order no learn by doing I have to have a known position to compare or start from. Compared to an entire Gentoo Desktop install, Postfix/LDAP (not even IMAP yet) is much harder. The main reason for this is not in complexity, but in lack of documentation that is organized logically to meet my goals. I don't really even know what to ask because everything seems so vague. An example of an absolutely marvelous documentation team is found at WordPress. http://codex.wordpress.org and Gentoo is pretty good to. The WordPress doc wiki stands heads and shoulders above about any I've seen. What would it take postfix to put something together like this? How might we start such a group within postfix? I'd be interested in helping and it sounds like we might be able to con Mr. Wheeler into it :-). I have some connections at WordPress that might be willing to give some pointers on a starting position so we could get this running. JSR/ |
