In Postfixish, "local domain" =3D=3D "domain listed in mydestination" =3D=
=3D
"domain delivered to local(8)". You might want to read
ADDRESS_CLASS_README.

(The above isn't strictly true. Transport maps can override these rules.)

I suppose the documentation could be a bit more clear here. Perhaps
what's said about append_at_myorigin clears things up a bit:

append_at_myorigin (default: yes)
Append the string "@$myorigin" to mail addresses without
domain information.

This feature is enabled by default and must not be turned
off. Postfix does not support domain-less addresses.
