aliases(5) does not instruct anyone to discard all messages to invalid
recipients by delivering them to /dev/null. aliases(5) gives /dev/null
as an example of how file delivery can be used.

Yeah, but had you been using a content filter you'd be filtering those
soon-to-be-discarded messages.
