No, you're not missing anything. Postfix will create the needed
directories, but if the OP is using an IMAP/webmail system that uses
shared folders or other advanced features, Postfix won't create those
automatically. In general, although Postfix will do certain things on
your behalf, "best practices" generally should include setting up the
environment prior to use. Your system design will be more logical,
modular and less prone to error.
