You and others are confusing Courier with Courier-IMAP.

Courier-IMAP is questionably named, as it includes a POP server,
which is not a client of the IMAP server (i.e. not just a compatibility
layer). But the SMTP and webmail pieces are not part of Courier-IMAP.
