Default httpd, samba and SElinux confusion

Hi all,

I have recently installed fedora core 4. Installed httpd, samba and
SElinux with it. I have enbled SElinux to allow FTP and HTTP but I am
having stange problem. I don't know it its httpd, samba or SElinux
causing it.

My problem is:
---------------------
windows web browswers can show the served pages only when samba service
is running. if samba is stopped, windows browsers cannot locate my
served pages. it takes some time to locate my FC4 host and stops with
page not found error. I thought httpd has nothing to do with samba but
it is not in my case.

Additional information I could give is:
---------------------------------------
1) LAN consist of 1 FC4 machine running httpd (serving pages) and other
6 units are windows xp machines.
2) all are connected via switch which is connected to DSL Modem router.
-----------------------

when I used the IIS with windows machine everything was ok. I don't
understand this problem. can somebody help me with this?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you don't have name resolution working on your network, and
Windows is falling back to local resource networking systems to figure out
the IP for the name you're trying to connect to. What happens if you
specify the server by IP address?

If that is the problem, you can fix it in different ways:

1. Run a local DNS service.
2. Write hosts files for each machine on your network, giving them
the IP addresses and hostnames for all machines on your network.
3. Only browse using numerical IP addresses.
