Default Apache: restart/graceful -> segfault

Hallo,
my Apache 2.0.47, mpm worker crashes in most times while doing a restart or
graceful. OS ist Linux 2.4, Apache is compiled from sources and works fine,
except this issze

error log:
[Mon Aug 11 22:52:35 2003] [notice] SIGUSR1 received. Doing graceful
restart
[Mon Aug 11 22:52:36 2003] [notice] Digest: generating secret for digest
authentication ...
[Mon Aug 11 22:52:36 2003] [notice] Digest: done
[Mon Aug 11 22:52:36 2003] [notice] seg fault or similar nasty error
detected in the parent process

Restart after the crash is only possible with killall httpd and then kill -9
PID of the remaining process.

Is this a known problem? Is there a solution?
Thanks
Florian
