Default Getting started Question

I'm just getting started playing around with Apache on a Mandrake
Linux box. Where can I get some high level info on running the
server? All the documentation is way too detailed for me at this
point. Is there an Apache for Dummies book? I'd also like to get a
feel for what is where in terms of significant directories, config
files etc.

Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing you never got any more information. I'm on RH9, and I
build my apache from scratch, but you can ask me questions, and I'll
try to answer as best I can.

Actually, you ask a wide question. What is it in particular that you want to
know?
The basic files to configure your Apache on that Mandrake box are in
/etc/httpd/conf/ whereof the most important is the httpd.conf and the
commonhttpd.conf files.
At least for apache on Mandrake linux 9.0 as that is Apache 1.3.27.

Else, let's know what you want to know, so we can provide detailed info.
BTW, google.com is good for a search.

OK, I installed Apache and it seems to work. I look at the
documentation that is linked to on the default "home page", and right
away, it jumps into lists of commands etc. I'm missing the overview
of what can I do with the server. I looked at the "How To" section
and was disapointed to see such a short list.
I'm not really so sure what things are done with a web server vs. done
with clever page programming. Maybe this will just take time and
digging..

Thanks...
