The first worm ever to have a widespread impact was a Unix sendmail worm. And all of these were corrected within a week. Ie, keep up with security updates. If you do not, you will certainly can be infected. Now however, you have listed 9 here. How many did you find on the site which infected Windows systems? And how many of those will still infect systems sold and distributed today? >Ho Ho, heres the truth. >http://securityresponse.symantec.com....jac.8759.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com...inux.svat.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com....hyp.6168.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com...pper.worm.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com...lion.worm.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com...llen.worm.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com...nux.typot.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com...nux.sorso.html >http://securityresponse.symantec.com...linux.zab.html >Take very good note of the words used :- >Systems Affected: Linux >Systems Not Affected: DOS, Macintosh, Microsoft IIS, OS/2, UNIX, >Windows 2000, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me,Windows >NT,Windows Server 2003, Windows XP They missed some. AmigaOS, CPM,..... Now how about publising the other items from that same site. Damage potential for example? |

Too bad there is no anti-virus on Linux and that 100% of users are vulnerable... |

To bad you have no clue. There are plenty of virus scanners for Linux. But reading trough the list above, the total number of Linux systems infected by a virus is less than 50. The rest of the list are either "Zoo" worms or Trojans or they have infected less than 50 computers. Only ONE has infected more than 1000 systems. All of which are stopped just by keeping your Linux system patched. Sorry if I don't see this as anywhere near the threat windows users are dealing with. |

Do you really mean that clamav, which has stopped 40 viruses on my linux network of 4 clients in a week, isn't an anti-virus? Help, am I really that insecure? What about the 672 spam messages spamassassin has stopped the last week? haven't it stopped them after all? *sigh* I simply MUST convert to windows on my servers and clients. I guess it was a bad idea to setup automatic patching and virus definition update on my linux boxes. Simply a waste of all the 30 minutes it took to set it up. -- Rolf Arne Schulze Trans-atlantic weightloss challenge: http://tawlc.net/ Min Weblog: http://rolfas.net/ |
