I'm kind-a-new at all ths stuff. Permit me to apologize
in advance for any annoying ignorance I demonstrate. But, I really am trying. I have a box running Gentoo. It is on my local area network. On my side of the router, it owns the following IP address: 192.168.1.106 From a Windoze XP box on the LAN, I open IE and enter http://192.168.1.106/home/mlh/credifree/CF/index.php in the address field. IE fails to display the page, complaining of the following - we've all seen it before... The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. Open the 192.168.1.106 home page, and then look for links to the information you want. Click the Back button to try another link. Click Search to look for information on the Internet. HTTP 404 - File not found Internet Explorer But when I type http://192.168.1.106 in there, I get a promising Apache message saying... If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful. You may now add content to this directory and replace this page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seeing this instead of the website you expected? This page is here because the site administrator has changed the configuration of this web server. Please contact the person responsible for maintaining this server with questions. The Apache Software Foundation, which wrote the web server software this site administrator is using, has nothing to do with maintaining this site and cannot help resolve configuration issues. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Apache documentation has been included with this distribution. You are free to use the image below on an Apache-powered web server. Thanks for using Apache! .... Well, like I said at the outset, I'm a newbie. If a security issue is preventing me from viewing the page, I haven't a clue. I can tell you that I've had successful psftp and pscp sessions from this window$ box to the linux server. So there you are. I hope someone out there knows a lot more about this than I do. |
