Hi,
I'm not an experienced linux user. I hope someone can explain me this in a simple way. I'm building a linux router for 5 windows workstations. I'm testing at this moment FreeSco, IpCop and SmoothWall Building the router with this easy software won't be a problem (I hope). But I would like to install an antivirus on the linux computer that should scan anything that passes the router/firewall (http, ftp, mail...) Is their anything I can install on Freesco, IpCop or Smoothwall that does this? If I can't get free software, I'm willing to buy software that does this, but it should get updated automatically, etc. Anyone any ideas or a better solution for the firewall/antivirus? TIA Danny |

Even then can you be absoloutly sure beyond all doebt that any mods you make to those systems will not compromise their security? Use good AV on your file server and workstations and you will be OK. -- ------------------------------------ Real email to mike. The header email is a spam trap and you will be blacklisted, submitted to anti-spam sites and proably burn in hell. |

The best thing would be to build a secure router/gateway without the AV, and
go though another box with the AV of your choice, or use it directly on the clients. There is also Astaro: http://www.astaro.com/ which have all that your are looking for...All-in-One Firewall + VPN + Anti Virus + more which is free for private users. Don't know about the AV etc. maybe you will have to pay for that, not sure. Check it out, could very well be the best there is. Another nice router dist., m0n0wall. Its a nice piece of software. http://m0n0.ch/wall/ - but no AV as far as I know, it's very secure and simple to work with. I would advise for a commercial one.
